Elsie and Louis are now gone, but we can't let their memory fade. We need to record our personal recollections of Elsie and Louis while memories are reasonably fresh. Please take the time to record everything you recall about Elsie and Louis - their personality, character, art, methodology, philosophy. - Click Here!

Elsie FreundElsie Bates Freund, termed a “Modern Pioneer” by Florida Craftsmen Gallery, was born in 1912. She married the well known artist Louis Freund in 1939. They spent many years in Florida and in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Elsie was a fine artist, working in paints, watercolors, textiles and jewelry.

Our focus here is on Elsie’s jewelry. We have become truly enamored with the beauty, complexity, and distinctiveness of her work – all in the context of an extremely interesting period of development in American art influences.

Elise Freund JewelryOur objective, frankly, is to build a reference collection of her work that will someday be displayed in a permanent manner in Eureka Springs. To that end we hope to expand this website over time so that it becomes the reference source on Elsie’s jewelry – including archives displaying as many examples of her work as possible, and importantly – gathering as much information as we can about Elsie and her thoughts and influences related to her jewelry design and construction.

This website is just beginning, so please excuse it’s “barebones” nature. If there is a constituency out there that loves Elsie’s jewelry as much as we do, then this website is bound to grow into a glorious testament to her work!

So please feel free to start sending us your photos and information on Elsie Freund jewelry - let us know if the pieces are for sale (with an asking price) or if you are willing to have them appear in our archive of her work. Just email us at: Info@ElsieFreund.com

Elsie at Auction!

"As I see it, there are two ways to approach jewelry making. One is to give a precious stone a proper setting. The other is to give something of no particular value a worth by making it a thing of beauty. Of the two methods, I prefer the latter".
